The neuroradiology section of NHRA focuses on the diagnosis and evaluation of disorders of the brain, skull base, neck and spine. All neuroimaging performed by NHRA is interpreted by fellowship trained neuroradiologists who hold Certificates of Added Qualification from the American Board of Radiology. Our neuroradiologists are some of the most experienced in New England, many of whom hold teaching appointments at Yale University School of medicine and include ABR board examiners. Our staff works in close collaboration with neurologists, neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists and orthopedic surgeons supporting multidisciplinary conferences and ensuring optimum patient care.
The neuroradiology section has access to some of the most state-of-the-art imaging technology such as 3T MRI, 1.2T True Open MRI, and 64 slice CT. MR techniques currently implemented include noncontrast MR Angiography of the head and neck, CSF flow analysis for assessment of NPH, noncontrast arterial spin labeling perfusion imaging, MR spectroscopy and Functional Imaging. Digital Subtraction CT Angiography with 3-D renderings is routinely employed for non-invasive diagnosis of cerebrovascular disease. Our neuroradiologists also perform image guided procedures including myelography, fluoroscopic guided lumbar punctures, epidural steroid injections, and facet injections. Vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and image guided biopsies are performed by Dr. Turgut Berkman, an interventional neuroradiologist.
